Creator Cross-Promotion: Agree the Audience, Permission and Deliverables First

Prepare a creator collaboration with a clear brief, content permissions, disclosure checks and a realistic way to review the result.

Creator Cross-Promotion: Agree the Audience, Permission and Deliverables First

A useful creator cross-promotion starts with audience fit and a written description of what each person will publish. Agree the material, destinations, timing, permissions and any payment or exchange before creating it. Treat the arrangement as a small joint project, with a clear way to stop or resolve a problem.

Follower totals alone do not show whether the audiences are interested in the same kind of work. Start with a suitable creative idea and realistic responsibilities rather than a promised number of new subscribers.

Decide whether the collaboration fits

Review the other creator's actual public work, communication and proposed placement. Confirm that the audience and destination are appropriate for the material. Decline requests to target minors, misrepresent the offer or evade a channel's restrictions.

Discuss boundaries before exchanging files. Promotion does not require appearing together in content, and agreeing to one project does not authorize every later use of your image or name.

Write a compact brief

Use this original worksheet for a permitted collaboration:

ItemWhat to agree
PurposeThe audience and the relevant idea
DeliverablesThe exact post, clip or mention each person supplies
DestinationsWhere the material may appear
TimingPublication dates and any real expiry
PermissionAllowed editing, reuse and approval of names or images
ConsiderationPayment, exchanged promotion or another benefit
ProblemsWho to contact if a post is late, inaccurate or unauthorized

Keep a copy both parties can review. A friendly conversation is easier to follow when the agreed details are written down.

Check rights and disclosures separately

Permission to appear, permission to distribute a file and ownership of the work are different questions. The US Copyright Office's introduction explains that original photographs and video can be protected and that ownership can be affected by contracts. Rules in your jurisdiction and the actual agreement still matter.

For promotion affecting US consumers, the FTC's influencer guidance explains that material relationships can require clear, prominent disclosure. Payment is not the only possible connection. Other applicable rules may also apply, so check the arrangement and audience rather than assuming a mutual mention is exempt.

These are planning prompts, not a ready-made legal agreement. Obtain qualified advice when the rights, payment or withdrawal terms need it. Any person appearing in platform content must also meet current age, consent and verification requirements.

Approve the final version

Review the actual caption, crop, links, disclosures and publication destination before release. Agree how corrections will be handled. Do not share login credentials or private subscriber information simply to coordinate a promotion.

If the activity involves adult material, keep it in permitted adult spaces and follow the platform's current rules. Moving the same material through an intermediate page does not establish compliance.

Review what happened

Compare the agreed deliverables with what actually ran. Record permitted aggregate results, workload and any problems. A completed post is one outcome; subscribers and cleared receipts are different outcomes and may not be fully attributable.

Use our campaign-vetting guide if someone asks for payment or makes strong promises. If a manager coordinates the project, Satin's service page explains the need for agreed budgets, approvals and creator control.
